Above all, referring to the detailed list of instructions and warnings for this product is extremely important, as the user accepts all responsibility for the information therein. Failure to follow these warnings can result in severe injury or death. Activities involving the use of this equipment are inherently dangerous, and the use is assuming the responsibility to obtain the necessary training from qualified and competent instructors and understanding the symbols, terms, and instructions for inspection before use. They can be found in the following document: PDF The Petzl RIG is a device specifically designed with experienced rope access workers in mind, with a variety of features intended to cater to the needs of workers who may be drilling, cutting, hammering or even welding at height. The safety gate and moving side plate allows the rope to be installed, and the convenient markings on the body of the descender give clear indication of where and how the rope should be installed. Great care was taken in the ergonomics of the handle, which is unique among Petzl’s line, allowing for precision and comfort in situations with multiple variables dividing one’s attention, and provides two different possible modes of descent: through the slide-plate, or in the V-shaped friction channel. The RIG’s AUTO-LOCK system is another vital innovation, as it allows users to position themselves at their work without difficult manipulation of handles, knots or tie-off devices; as soon as the user lets go of the handle, they stop in place and can focus on the task at hand. While locked, the rope can still be taken up without having to adjust the handle, allowing for greater positioning and movement without needing to fully reconfigure the device. Even beyond its primary use, RIG is working for you, as the handle automatically switches to its storage position when the rope is removed from the device, reducing the risk of accidentally catching the rope when the descender is carried on a harness.
